NPR: The New Odd Couple Barney Frank and Ron Paul

Rep. Barney Frank & Rep. Ron Paul

This morning NPR’s “On Point” had one of the most remarkable hours of radio we have ever heard. Host Tom Ashbrook had on Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) and Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) discussing military spending. It is hard to imagine an odder pair than the openly gay Uber-liberal Frank and the sometimes odd Libertarian Paul ever agreeing on anything.

WV Gov. Manchin in no Hurry to Replace Byrd

Former Speaker of the House Tipp O’Neill used to say, “all politics is local.” But how quickly Governor Joe Manchin III of West Virginia moves to fill the seat of the dearly departed Sen. Robert Byrd (D-RIP) has huge national implications. With the seat empty, the Democrats only have 58 of the 60 votes needed in the Senate to move legislation forward. What had been a tough task of finding a single Republican vote to break a filibuster now requires two. This puts the entire Democratic agenda of passing “sweeping” legislation they can campaign on in November in jeopardy.
