Blaming Bush is Getting Old
By Rod Pennington
President Obama has been in the White House for nearly two years. The Democrats have controlled both houses of congress for the last four years. How much longer will the Democrats continue to blame every problem in the world, large and small, on a man who last ran for office in 2004?
Granted, George W. Bush was president when the economic meltdown occurred. But Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was also Speaker of the House and Harry Reid (D-NV) was Senate Majority Leader at the same time. According to the Constitution, the legislative branch is a co-equal to the executive branch. All laws and spending bills have to come from Congress and be signed or vetoed by the president. Shouldn’t the Democrats get at least a small percentage of the blame for what happened?
Apparently in the eyes of the Democratic cheerleaders in the mainstream media, the blame belongs to Bush and Bush alone. Oh, and Karl Rove.
President Obama is fond of talking about the “mess he inherited.” He didn’t inherit anything. It wasn’t like someone died and left this on his desk for him to deal with. He spent two years running for the office of president claiming he had the right plan to fix the problem.
Now, 18 months later, after a stimulus package that seemed more designed to protect big donors to the Democrats than to help the American economy, Mr. Obama still wants to blame Bush?
Recent polls show the country still holds President Bush responsible for the sputtering economy. They also show that large numbers of voters, particularly independents, are questioning Pres. Obama’s abilities and priorities.
The Democrats who have to face voters this fall will be on the defensive because of unpopularity of their votes on health care reform, the stimulus bill and the bank bailouts. They will be hard pressed to explain why they seemed to be able to find time for every other piece of legislation in the world other than one that would create jobs and get the economy back on track. Since the public appears to be getting wise to the “Blame Bush” they need a new villain. They will need someone even less popular than the ex-president.
Here’s a thought. Blame it on BP!
