Are Sen. Boxer and the other Female Senators Killing Feminism?
By Rod Pennington
In the latest poll on the California senate race, Republican and former Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina has pulled to within the margin of error of Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA). The 3 term Democrat’s lead has collapsed from 30 points to 3, 47-44. Worse for Boxer, 51% of folks in the Golden State have an unfavorable view of her. When a well-known incumbent crosses the threshold where more of their citizens dislike than like them, it is usually the time to contact a New York literary agent and start on your memoirs.
Sen. Boxer arrived in the senate the same year President Clinton arrived at the White House. Considering she represents easily the most important state in the union, she has a jarringly thin list of accomplishments. The Fiorina campaign put out a devastating campaign ad noting Boxer’s name had only appeared on three bills in the past 18 years. One named a river rapid and another named a courthouse.
But in fairness, she is not alone. Did you know there are currently 17 female US Senators? How many can you name? Extra credit if you can name a single piece of passed legislation that has had a female name on it from either party. Take your time, I’ll wait.
Nearly every female in the US Senate with the exception of Feinstein (D-CA), Snowe (R-ME) and Collins (R-ME) are almost never seen or mentioned. They make no waves, pass no legislation but show up and vote however the boys tell them to. The last and maybe only effective female senator was Hillary Clinton. She ran circles around all of the girls and most of the guys for that matter.
How is it possible that all of these senators as a group are so ineffectual? Are they victims of the “Peter Principal”? According to Dr. Lawrence Peter, his principal is a fairly simple concept. “In a hierarchy every employee tends to rise to his level of incompetence.”
Or, could it be political correctness and the desire to have a woman, any woman, in a high office is to blame?
Either or both, it doesn’t do the woman’s movement any favors by having a bunch of empty pants suits keeping chairs warm and taking orders from their male party leadership.

Is California going to finally join the “human race”? Have they seen the light? Do they realize what the Dems are doing to our country? Say it isn’t so! Now if they get rid of those “santuary cities” we will know they finally made it ouf of the worm hole..
You are right on about Hillary and her effectiveness. My friends in upstate NY really miss her as Senator. Nobody worked harder or knew more than Hillary Clinton.
While I didn’t always agree with Sec. Clinton’s politics, she was a hard working Senator who clearly represented the folks in NY well.

what do you thing of WFC’s following comments?
” In the U.S. Senate, Barbara Boxer is the first female Chairwoman of the Environment and Public Works Committee and simultaneously, Chair of the Select Committee on Ethics, making her the only Senator in charge of two committees at the same time. Also, a quick online search reveals that, in the current Congress alone, Boxer’s name is on over 500 pieces of legislation, including an international effort to combat HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis, and an important taxpayer protection amendment to the Wall Street Reform bill.” ???
I guess it all comes down to how you define your name on a bill. Being one of 94 co-sponsors on legislation in support of using sunscreen or flossing daily is hardly McCain-Feingold or Dodd-Frank Finance Reform. You can also pad the number by counting every amendment you enter even if it has no chance of passage.
I saw Fiorina’s ad and thought it was hilarious. While watching it, it occurred to me that there are never any women with their names on the top line of any “Major” pieces of legislation. Hey, I can be convinced. Post a list of major legislation where it is named after a female senator and I’ll reconsider.
Boxer-Smith is border line at best – who is going to be against $400 million to fight tuberculosis? The only question is how much money will be approved and not whether it will pass or not. It also has to be something that needed a fighting champion to drive it through the senate. Amendments to other people’s bill don’t count either.
From my seat, the only effective female senator I’ve ever seen was Sec. Hillary Clinton. The Maine twins of Sen. Snowe and Sen. Collins on most days are the only voices of reason coming out of the Republicans. Sen. Feinstein has her strong days, but none of the rest would be what I would consider strong leaders.
You have to admit the “empty pants suits” was a really funny line.
